MGL Rule Clarifications:

NEW FOR 2013……  RAIN-OUTS, DELAYS, POSTPONEMENTS

When heavy rain, lightning, or other dangerous weather causes unplayable conditions the following will apply:

·         If play is suspended, no matter what hole you are on, at this point each team sign the others card.  Play will resume from the point at which all 4 players have completed the hole. If you stay on the course and wait until conditions are playable, you will continue from the point where play was stopped.

Matches that are not started or played because of a rainout, dangerous weather, or course closings and restrictions (such as closed holes, riding carts not permitted, other tournaments, etc.) are considered to be postponed.

Relief for New Tree Plantings:  New trees have been planted on the course.  You may take relief if a new tree interferes with your stance or your swing.  Move away one club length and drop.

Viewing Putts?  It is against the rules (14.2b) for a player to stand behind his partner to witness the line of the first player’s putt.  Stand on the side.

There is no “line of sight” relief in our league.  Only stance and swing relief.

Scorecard Errors:  In the future, you may notice that a few scores have been changed from past postings.  Our statistician, Joe Cannon, enters every score for every hole into his golf program, which comes up with the correct score versus what the scorekeepers may have indicated on the card. So, don’t worry that some of you can’t add.  Big Brother will make the corrections.

TEAM  FORMATION                        2 MAN   &   8 MAN---for 2014 Season

Teams will be formed by ranking present (and new) players in divisions, in groups of 12 players. Each group of 12 will be placed in the appropriate divisions (called)  a, b, c, d.

Each team (both 2 man and 8 man) is formed on a ranking structure that usually matches #1 with #12 player, in each division- -#13 with #24 etc. The major input for the formation of each team both 2 & 8 man teams is the (3) averages sheet showing all averages for the 2012 season. The primary info used is that which is contained in the minus (-3) average.  A review of the other two averages may be taken into account if it appears that rankings are not comparable in all three methods of establishing   averages.

Other averages are used to eliminate ties, satisfy individual desires of some players (not guaranteed) I.E. I do not want to play with someone who smokes, I do not want to play with him or he does not want to play with you, he walks, he talks, or whatever…….Another major issue that comes up every year is the number of players who retire, withdraw from the league, move etc and will no longer play in the league. There were 8 such happenings prior to the 2013 season. This requires making some judgment calls in the method of team formation.

It is the goal of the league to replace leaving players with players who will qualify for the (A) division or at least the (B) division.

In addition to all the previously mentioned factors, it is a goal of the league through the executive committee to promote and  achieve a more social atmosphere. League members will not have the same partner for two years in a row. In addition, if you have played with someone in any prior year  the executive team may assign a partner that may not exactly match the 1 and 12 formula –ie  if player 5 has played previously with player 8 player 5 may be assigned to player 7 or 9 if the total combined average is deemed to be very close to the average of the 5 and 8 combination.

The present executive  committee participants  are  Joe Cannon,  Bob Ciccarone,   George Caufield,   Paul DeCurtis, and Jim Fleitz……..
